N2 - Outsourcing allows companies to reduce costs, optimize the use of resources, provide added value in the delivery of services, and concentrate on achieving the strategic objectives of the business. The exclusion of some factors during the planning of outsourcing has contributed to the failure of software development projects. Those factors include software quality assurance of both the product and the process, the lack of active participation of customers and end-users, and the lack of monitoring and communication with the provider. As a consequence, this research proposes a methodology for managing the relationship between customers and suppliers during the outsourcing of systems development. It synthesizes the processes and best practices in the management of third parties to contribute to the creation of added value for the client and provider. As a result, this work presents a methodology that includes 7 phases, which in turn comprise inputs, tasks, and outputs that are used by the following stages.
